This Saturday May 19th what ever happens will be a memorable one for the club. A year on from their U16 League win of 2011 and they await the result of the other semi in 2012 for the right to contest the title with them in the U16 final.

Our u8s and u10s boys and girls will travel to Brews Hill for an early start o Saturday with plenty of go-games for all and hope all enjoy the day and they will.

The U12s host Syddan at 4pm to try to break the deadlock in their playoff match for the right to play Castletown in a semi final. Should they fail they would then need to beat Ballinlough for the thankless task of facing Kilmainhamwood in a far tougher semi.Best of luck to all. Whatever the outcome this young team have given great entertainment to date and deserve great credit in what has proved to be a very tough group.

What a task the u14s have in store on Mon next with a championship semi date with a strong Castletown outfit who over came Clonard in their semi, who in turn narrowly beat the Cannistown lads in the shield recently.

Next week could truly be a great week for our young footballers with all 3 competitive age groups hoping to achieve great feats. Hope members ,players and parents alike encourage all in their endeavors .

Tonight sees the presentation of newly sponsored jerseys by Beechmount Garden Centre to the club for our u12s and u14s to wear with pride and thanks to both Larry and Breda Clarke for their generosity in tough times and hope their son Jack and his team mates work as hard for each other as they do for the club and the community

04 May 2012

Hard luck to our minor team on their defeat to Longwood on Monday 23rd April in the semi final of the MFL. They would be the first to admit they were beaten by a well drilled Longwood outfit who should be well fancied to win the division.

On a happier note congrats to our U16s who now sit on top of their division unbeaten and await the semis.

Our U14s await the championship in May and with a bit of luck and hard graft might get by the first round which has unfortunately been a luckless task in the last few years to minimum losing margins.

The U12s have been very busy but also suffered narrow defeats since their winning opener but the prospects for this young team are bright and with hard work results will come their way.

The good work being put in at u10s has seen two and three teams performing at recent go-games and our U8s had a great day out recently in St Cuthberts and also had enough players to field two teams. Well done to all mentors coaches and parents for encouraging the kids.

Next go-games in O’Mahonys on Sat 19th May and Bective to host it on Sat 9th June. Young whistlers get ready.

Fundamentals coaching courses and nursery courses coming up. Ask early if interested as numbers limited.

Our Club has been included in the list of venues to host summer camps this summer for the first time and all in the club should be proud of this achievement and help promote it and wish it’s success. Dates 16-20 July. Bookings on line on Meath Gaa website or ask for more detail from any club officer. More detail will follow but try to book early to avoid disappointment.

Happy Holiday Weekend To All
And Bective Ladies Are Now Starting To Score Points Also -Keep it up.

All eyes on the ball from Drumconrath’s Chris Tighe and Bective’s Ciaran McConnell during the Meath JFC at Kilberry.

Drumconrath 1-7
Bective 1-7

Drumconrath came within 30 seconds on their First 1st team Championship win since August 2007 when a
late late free of the softest variety gave pre competition favourites a lucky escape from Kilberry on Friday evening May 4th. Bective found the tenacity of the Drumconrath players too much to handle for the majority and Drums probably defended their lead from too far out and invited Bective back into the game.

Drumconrath with 4 starters from round 1 all out injured, Thomas Carolan, Brendan Lyons, Aiden Tighe and Derek Duff but they started at a good pace and Leighton Irwin pointed early on, Bective did level the game with a free but an unbelievable side line kick from Alan Byrne no more than 10 metres from the end line put Drums ahead again. Drumconrath born Philip Treacy levelled the game and Irwin pushed Drums ahead with another free.

Byrne sized up another sideline and while it fell short midfielder Sean McMahon rose highest to fist to the net. Drums where rampant at that stage and Jamie Myles raced forward to point. Marty Mulhall did point a free to narrow the gap and when Treacy raced through and passed inside a clumsy Drumconrath challenge gave the Bective team a reprieve as the referee signalled a penalty. Mulhall made no mistake from the spot kick and there was only a point in the game.

Stephan Crosby was having a mighty game at midfield for the Reds and he was well supported by Oran Finnegan, Alan McEvoy and Myles. Christopher Tighe got on the end of another Byrne through ball to flick the ball over the bar just on half time and was unlucky maybe not to have goaled as Drums retired 1-5 to 1-3 in the lead.

The 2nd half started in the same vein with Drumconrath dominating around the middle but unlike the 1st half where finding it hard to get shots on target Irwin did point a free to extend the lead but Bective countered with a similar score. Stalemate was the order of the day for the next 10 minutes until Sean Kane strode forward to point a 45 with 12 minutes to go. Bective had Paul McCabe sent off on a 2nd yellow soon after as Drumconrath defended a 4 point lead. Two Bective points narrowed the gap and with 6 minutes to go Drums Damien Glass also went early after a 2nd yellow.

Mulhall pointed a free and when it looked like Drumconrath would hold out for a deserved win,Alan McEvoy appeared to be fouled but the Referee taught otherwise and gave that late late free which drew the game as the final whistle sounded on the kickout.

Sean Kane who made 1 fine save, Oran Finnegan, Jamie Myles, Peter Tighe, Stephan Crosby and Alan McEvoy played well while up front Alan Byrne and Niall Martin had good moments.

Drumconrath; Sean Kane (0-1); Patrick Dunne, Brian Hanratty, Oran Finnegan; Jamie Myles (0-1), Peter Tighe, John McDermott; Stephan Crosby, Sean McMahon (1-0); Damien Glass, Christopher Tighe (0-1), Niall Martin; Alan Byrne (0-1), Leighton Irwin (0-3), Alan McEvoy.

Moynalvey 1-8
Bective 3-4

The concession of three goals ultimately put paid to any hopes of Moynalvey taking anything from this Peter Fox Junior ‘D’ Championship game against Bective at Walterstown on Saturday evening April 28th.

Bective got off to the perfect start when they struck for their opening goal as early as seven minutes into the game. Two minutes later Moynalvey opened their account for the evening when full forward PJ Walsh sent over. Moynalvey’s second score arrived in the 11th minute when Fearghal McCabe drove over after good interplay between PJ Walsh and Eoin Maher. Moynalvey took the lead for the first time midway through the opening period when Walsh expertly dispatched the ball to the back of the Bective net. Two minutes later Walsh continued his good first half form when he put three between the sides. McCabe pointed his second effort of the evening in the 17th minute after receiving an excellent cross field pass from Ger Fagan. Walsh added his fourth and fifth scores of the evening, converting a free kick in the 26th minute and sixty seconds later pointing from play. Bective’s second score of the game arrived in the 28th minute leaving five points between the sides, 1-6 to 1-1 at half time.

The second half belonged to Bective as their dominance of possession ensured they dominated the score board too as they outscored Moynalvey 2-3 to 0-2 in the second period. Bective had closed the deficit to three points within seven minutes of the restart sending over two efforts from play. Moynalvey’s centre forward Brian Gilsenan put four between the sides after 47 minutes when pointing from a free after he was fouled. Within a minute of Gilsenan’s score Bective pounced for their second goal leaving the minimum between the sides. With nine minutes remaining Moynalvey pointed their last effort of the evening when Padraig Kelly pointed a monstrous effort from distance. Despite Moynalvey having held the lead since the 12th minute of the game, Bective took the lead at a crucial time when they raised their third green flag after pouncing for their 3rd goal with only three minutes remaining. A converted free kick in the final minute sealed a two point victory for Bective on a 3-4 to 1-8 score line.

Bective – P. Clarke; B. Hogge, N. Davis, S. Pryle; D. Killion, J. Brennan, C. Barry; K. O’Brien; S. Barry (0-2), A. McCabe, C. Dowdall; S. Mann (1-1), A. Shine (2-1), D. Cassidy. Subs – G. Brennan, D. Keating, G. Hogge, M. Lyness.

Moynalvey – Z. Donoghue, S. Carroll, V. Walsh, A. Donnelly, S. Courtney, D. Dixon, D. Brannigan, G. Fagan, P. Corcoran, P. Kelly (0-1), B. Gilsenan (0-1), F. McCabe (0-2), E. Maher, PJ Walsh (1-4), M. Munnelly. Subs: S. McGann for Munnelly, C. Shirren for Corcoran, J. Munnelly for Courtney, S. Deering for McCabe.

Coaching and Games for 5 to 12 yrs continue each Fri @ 6pm to 7pm.

Well done to both u12 teams recently with the boys beating Ballinlough and the girls overcoming Duleek/Bellewstown and thanks to all who travelled to both games.

Hard luck to the u14s away last Fri to Clonard losing in the Shield by just 2pts in an absolutely incredible match 6-7 to 4-15 and the fine sporting Clonard outfit coincidental lost since to Ballinlough on a similar scoreline but scored 1 goal less.6-7 to 3-15.

Great to see Brendan Leech again this week with his Conard u16s this time in Bective but his young side came up a little short in another fine match between these 2 clubs. The u16s next match is away to Ballinabracky next Thurs@7under the watchfull eye of P Mc Connell.

Best of luck to our Minors in the semi final of the league away to Longwood on Mon@7pm and hopefully the team that has worked so hard for each other to date will get the right side of the result. The sides had a draw in their last meeting and so we could see extra time in this one .

No underage football due to 1st communion for Cannistown NS on Sat but all action next week again and Coaching will resume on Thurs next with the Club School -Link
