1967: Bective’s first final

Skryne 3-7
Bective 0-5

Bective’s first appearance in a county final came in 1967, but unfortunately they were on the receiving end of an impressive performance from a strong Skryne side at Pairc Tailteann.

Bective went into the decider on the back of a fine victory over the Commons, but once Skryne settled they were the superior team.

It took them 17 minutes to open the scoring with a fisted goal from Harry Dowling and a further goal from the outstanding Phelim McCabe helped them to a 2-3 to 0-2 lead at the interval.

Bective, with Tommy Kearing turning in a typically whole-hearted display at midfield, tried desperately to revive their hopes in the third quarter, but they lacked scoring power and a third goal from Christy Barry ended the match as a contest.

Midfielder Keating was Bective’s star performer on the day and Joey Geraghty, Mick Morris and Finbar O’Brien also had their moments.

Bective: T. Lee; J. Geraghty, M. Morris (0-1), P. Neale; C. Quinn, F. O’Brien, C. Keenan; Tom Keating, G. Ryan; L. Smith (0-1), J. Kane, M. Dennehy; B. Fitzsimons, P. Farrelly, J. Fitzsimons (0-2).
