An impressive third quarter display was the key to Bective-Dunderry capturing the MFL Division title decider at Pairc Tailteann, where holders Parnells were outscored by five points.

The combination side played some sparkling football on the way to this victory, especially in the forward division where they threw the ball around like an inter-county side.

Parnells took an early lead but two wonderful scores from Brian Brereton and Damien Cahill settled the winners. A goal midway through the half from Cahill put Bective-Dunderry into a great position, especially when Brereton, Thomas Rafter and Like Hartnett followed up with good points.

However, Parnells were not ready to lie down and three quick points saw them trial by only one score at the interval, 0-5 to 1-5.

The third quarter was all Bective-Dunderry, and goals from Ronan McEnroe and a spectacular effort from Ruairi Russell helped them to move 10 points clear.

Parnells hit two quick goals to make for an exciting finish, but further points from Hartnett, Russell, Brereton and Rafter meant that the eventual winners always had a bit to spare over their rivals.

Fiachra Geraghty, Brian Hogge and Alan Healy in defence were superb, while captain Kevin Dowd and forwards Brian Brereton and Ruairi Russell stood out.

Bective-Dunderry: F. Geraghty; R. Farrell, B. Murphy; B. Hogge, W. Tormey, A. Healy; K. Dowd, L. Hartnett (0-2); B. Brereton (0-5), D. Cahill (1-1), R. Russell (1-1); T. Rafter (0-2), R. McEnroe (1-0).
